Dear Sir I would like to endorse the letter from Richard Worrall in tonight's Express and Star about the pensioners concessionary travel passes. It is vital that these passes are retained at the current level, especially as the powers that be already have plans to make the next generation to mine work until they reach 70 years of age, despite rising unemployment amongst the young, then remove their driving licences and force them onto public transport. We should be working towards making these passes more homogenous throughout the UK, with availablility on all public transport 24/7, not imposing more restrictions. Before this government was elected, Gordon Brown pledged to remove means testing from benefits, but has so far failed to remove any. Is he going to oversee the introduction of even more means testing by extending it to the concessionary bus pass? Anybody wanting to read the views of the National Pensioners' Convention can do so at www.npcuk.org. The issue can also be discussed in the Wolverhampton Pensioners' Convention's forum at www.wolverhamptonpensionersconvention.btik.com The pensioners of today and tomorrow must stand up and be counted now, before we lose all we have gained in the last 100 years.
